A UNIQUE COLLECTION FOCUSED ON THE TRANSMISSION OF A PASSION
The collection of the Swiss Museum of Live Steam Modelling is unique in terms of the richness of its pieces, the diversity of the periods represented as well as the variety of scales and spacings reunited. Each model is both a remarkable technical achievement and the testimony of an era, its construction methods, its know-how and the passion of those who contributed to the development of live steam model railroading.
This preservation mission is also based on the essential commitment of volunteers, which are involved in the maintenance, restoration, documentation and operation of the models. Through their experience and the transmission of their knowledge, they contribute to preserving a heritage that goes beyond the objects on display to also encompass the gestures, techniques and memory associated with them.
The museum’s collection is thus designed as a living collection. Thanks to the direct connection to the Swiss Vapeur Parc network, some of the locomotives can be heated, leave the museum and move on the circuit. The diversity of scales and spacings testifies to the richness of the history of live steam modelling and makes it possible to present its multiple expressions.
Preserving these models therefore also means preserving their ability to function and convey an emotion. By combining conservation, restoration, exploitation and sharing of know-how, the Foundation brings a unique collection to life and ensures its transmission to future generations.
