THE FOUNDATION<\/strong><\/h1>\n

Created in 2010, the <\/span>Foundation for Rapid Steam Modelling (FMVV)<\/span><\/strong> was born from a desire: to sustainably preserve an exceptional heritage linked to live steam and the railway world. <\/span> Over the years, a remarkable collection has been built up at Le Bouveret. It now brings together more than <\/span>130 exhibits<\/span><\/strong>, including more than <\/span>30 live steam<\/span><\/strong> locomotives, static steam engines and numerous objects from railway history.<\/span><\/p>\n

But preserving this heritage does not only mean conserving machines. <\/span>Behind every locomotive are hundreds of hours of design, machining, assembly and tuning. They bear witness to technical and artisanal know-how that has become rare, passed down from generation to generation by enthusiasts. <\/span><\/p>\n

The Foundation’s mission is to preserve this heritage and the related know-how and to ensure that it continues to live.<\/span><\/p>\n

Recognised as a non-profit organisation since 2013 and placed under the supervision of the Federal Department of Home Affairs, the Foundation carries out its mission with a long-term perspective.<\/span><\/p>\n

It relies on the skills of professionals from the railway, technical, economic and institutional fields, as well as on the commitment of many volunteers and enthusiasts.<\/span><\/p>\n

OUR GOALS<\/strong><\/h1>\n

The Fondation du Mod\u00e9lisation \u00e0 Vapeur Vive works to <\/span>preserve, maintain, restore and enhance<\/span><\/strong> the locomotives, live steam engines and railway objects that make up its collection.<\/span><\/p>\n

It has several objectives:<\/span><\/p>\n

    \n
  • To preserve a unique heritage<\/span><\/strong>, by protecting from the abandonment or disappearance of machines and objects that bear witness to the history of steam and railways.<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Keeping the machines running<\/span><\/strong>, because a live steam locomotive makes sense when it can still run, produce steam and transmit the sensations of a moving mechanism.<\/span><\/li>\n
  • To safeguard the know-how<\/span><\/strong>, gestures and knowledge necessary for the construction, maintenance and operation of these machines.<\/span><\/li>\n
  • To pass on to future generations<\/span><\/strong>, allowing children, young people, families, schools and enthusiasts to discover in a concrete way the history of steam, mechanics and the railway.<\/span><\/li>\n
  • To make this heritage accessible to the public<\/span><\/strong>, by creating a place where history, technology, living heritage and discovery meet.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    A LIVING HERITAGE<\/strong><\/h1>\n

    The particularity of the FMVV collection lies in its lively character.<\/span><\/p>\n

    Locomotives are not meant to stand still behind a shop window. They are designed to work and some will continue to run on the Swiss Vapeur Parc network. <\/span><\/p>\n

    Seeing a locomotive set in motion, hearing the steam, observing its mechanism and understanding how the energy is transformed allows for a very different approach to a traditional exhibition.<\/span><\/p>\n

    It is this experience that the Foundation wishes to preserve and share.<\/span><\/p>\n
